Overview
The School Counselor program is a fully online program that leads to initial certification in school counseling, as recognized by the New York State Education Department. This program can be completed in two years (four semesters) on a full-time basis, with a total of 48 credit hours, including 100 hours of practicum and 600 hours of internship.

What You’ll Learn
Students will learn to apply both developmental and intervention models to support the holistic growth of students as unique individuals within educational settings. You’ll also develop leadership skills and learn to advocate for educational equity for all students.
The program includes both synchronous and asynchronous classes, giving you the flexibility to learn and study at your own pace while also participating in live, interactive sessions. This blended format ensures that students receive a well-rounded, engaging education.
You’ll also get hands-on experience within school districts, working alongside skilled professionals to hone your skills and building a network to support your future success.

How to Apply
- Submit your graduate application and the non-refundable fee by February 1.
- Submit an official transcript of an earned bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university. Your transcript must include a minimum of 9 s.h. in psychology and/or educational psychology coursework and a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better based on coursework from all previously attended postsecondary institutions.
- Submit two professional letters of recommendation.
- For those who meet the above requirements (1-3), have a personal interview with members of the Counselor Education faculty.
- Submit an essay outlining your specific academic areas of interest and your career goals.
