Do you have a bachelor's degree outside of education but want to earn your teacher certification in special education? SUNY Oneonta's Master of Science in Teaching (M.S.T.) program provides an opportunity for individuals with bachelor's degrees outside of education to earn a master’s in special education. Choose from two options: Early Childhood (Birth-Grade 2) or Childhood Education (Grades 1-6).

Teacher Certification
Our program leads to initial teacher certification in Early Childhood or Childhood Special Education. Graduates will be eligible for professional certification in Early Childhood or Childhood Special Education after completion of three years of teaching special education.

Admissions Criteria
- An undergraduate GPA of 3.0 overall and 3.0 in the major field during the last two years of undergraduate work.
- Content core in a major, concentration or the equivalent with a minimum of 30 credit hours in a single school subject: Science, Math, History or English.
- Coursework in technology, artistic expression, communication, information retrieval, humanities, written analysis and expression, a language other than English, concepts in history and the social sciences, scientific and mathematical processes.

- Submit an official transcript of an earned bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
- Submit an essay outlining your purpose in applying for the M.S.T. in Special Education: Why are you drawn to Special Education, and what are your career goals?
- Submit three letters of reference.
- Complete a clinical interview.
