The fieldwork microcredential certifies that students understand archaeological field methods and can work professionally in field archaeology. 

Skills

SUNY Oneonta’s Archaeological Field Methods microcredential provides you with the following skills necessary to be a field archaeologist:

Required Courses

• ANTH 1600 Introduction to Archaeology
• Choose one 2000-3000 Archaeology course
• Choose 6 credits of field experience courses

Competencies

Upon completion of the program, you will be able to demonstrate the ability to:

• recognize archaeological materials in the field;
• do surface and subsurface survey;
• to excavate and map an archaeological site;
• to document excavations through forms and field notes.

You will receive both a notation on your transcript and a digital badge.
