Mathematics Major

Overview

SUNY Oneonta Mathematics majors study the theoretical and practical applications of mathematics. Courses in the history of math are also offered. Seminars and independent study projects will allow you to work with faculty members in special areas of interest. Student teams regularly pit their skills against those of students at other colleges and universities in the prestigious Putnam mathematics competition.

Hands-On Learning

Seminars and independent study projects allow Mathematics majors to explore more advanced topics and to work with faculty members in special areas of interest. You may have the opportunity to do an internship or collaborate with faculty on joint research projects. Some Oneonta students have co-authored papers or presented their work on campus and at regional meetings of the Mathematical Association of America.
