Hands-On Learning

You’ll have many opportunities to learn by doing, including independent research, faculty-led study abroad experiences, internships and the Dr. Ralph R. Watkins Hub for Social Justice, an incubator for students to create and initiate social justice projects. Some students have interned or submitted papers for publication to Praxis: Journal of Gender and Cultural Studies, a peer-reviewed journal edited by a tenured ALS faculty member.

Students participate in the Kente Graduation Celebration.

Kente Celebration

Kente celebrates diversity, equity and inclusion via academic, leadership and service. Every spring, faculty and staff from Africana and Latinx Studies work to create an inclusive celebration that reflects the university's diverse student population. Selected ALS students serve on the advisory committee to plan the ceremony.
