Overview
Geography is the science of place and space, and geographers study patterns on the Earth caused by humans and nature. Since many types of patterns have formed and are constantly forming, the field of geography is diverse, encompassing nature-society interactions, spatial distributions and patterns of human activities or human geography, and methods and models for measuring and interpreting patterns on the Earth.

Why Study Geography?
Why not start with a river, a city, a mountain or a road? Geography asks the big questions — How? Why? What if? — and lets you answer them with advanced technology and a solid knowledge of the world. You’ll gain a well-rounded perspective of geographic knowledge and skills that will prepare you to interpret social, physical and environmental influences at local, regional and global scales.
Career Opportunities
Our program will prepare you for careers in disaster response, municipal planning, education, community development and more. Here’s a sampling of careers our grads are pursuing.
Requirements
Select the track that interests you – either General Geography, Urban and Regional Planning or Geographic Information Systems – and see a list of required courses and a sample plan of study for your next four years.

Hands-On Learning
Outside the classroom, you'll have many opportunities to do service-learning activities, independent research projects and internships. Faculty-led field courses provide hands-on learning and in-depth study of cultures and environments. Recent student internship opportunities have ranged from GIS mapping of local biking and hiking trails to work with county planning departments, conservation associations and water districts.
