Overview
Alcoholism and substance use and abuse are major concerns in New York and many other states in the United States. The Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) of New York anticipates many openings for substance abuse counselors in the state over the coming years because of retirements. OASAS indicates that the need is currently high in the Mohawk Valley Region. OASAS certifies all Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselors (CASAC) in New York State. The Addictions Counseling 1 microcredential, and two additional microcredentials in development, are designed to align with the requirements of the CASAC credentialing.
