Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Coordinator Microcredential

Overview

The course is designed to allow students to become proficient with and demonstrate excellence with Federal (IRS) & New York State (NYS) tax legislation. Each student will complete all certifications to comply with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as well as earn NYS certification so they can become a site coordinator.

Competencies

Upon completion of the program, you will be able to demonstrate the ability to:

  • Review and research all returns;
  • Identify necessary adjustments and communicate them to faculty;
  • Coordinate and communicate with those community members who qualify for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program;
  • Prepare PowerPoint slides on tax training materials and present them to the class.

You will receive both a notation on your transcript and digital badge, and a VITA/TCE Certification from the IRS.
