Spanish Major

Overview

SUNY Oneonta’s Spanish program offers courses in language, culture, civilization and literature, a range of overseas programs and a committed and engaging faculty. You’ll develop analytical and writing skills, and oral proficiency through critical study of cinema, literature, culture and history. Many courses participate in Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) projects, an innovative way of connecting with students across the world.

Education Program

If you’re interested in becoming a middle or high school Spanish teacher, you’ll complete a dual major in Spanish (B.A.) and Adolescence Education: Spanish (B.S.).

Hands-On Learning

Students are encouraged to study abroad, and more than 800 programs are available through the SUNY network. Special opportunities include faculty-led field courses abroad, where students have the chance to practice language skills and immerse themselves in another culture. Recent trips have taken students to Cartagena, Colombia and the island of San Andres, north of Colombia.
