Overview
SUNY Oneonta’s Sociology major will prepare you for a range of careers, including social services, counseling, marketing, work with the elderly and social policy. You’ll learn to understand and apply concepts and theories to your study of human behavior in groups, communities, organizations, social movements, societies and nation-states. With five distinct tracks, you can customize your program of study to fit your interests.

Select a track – General, Community Development and Planning, Criminology and Deviance, Human Services or Aging Studies – and see the list of required courses and a sample plan of study for your next four years.

Hands-On Learning
Sociology students put their knowledge and skills into practice through internships and, service-learning projects, as well as participation in sociology and criminal justice clubs that organize fundraisers, host workshops and speakers, and attend conferences for professional organizations such as the Eastern Sociological Society.
