With curriculum that combines physical training and cognitive preparation, this microcredential gives you a competitive edge by preparing you for success in a New York State-Certified Law Enforcement Academy, such as the SUNY Oneonta Law Enforcement Academy.
Upon completion of this 10-credit program, you will:
- demonstrate commitment to physical training sufficient to pass law enforcement academy standards and excel in defensive tactics taught in the academy
- have a solid background knowledge of law, sufficient to ensure mastery of materials taught in a law enforcement academy
- understand the context and explain the role and value of police in society
- be ready to proceed to a state-certified law enforcement academy program

- CRJ/EXSC 1053 Police Fitness Training
- CRJ/EXSC 1054 Martial Arts: Jiu Jitsu I
- CRJ 3870 Police and Society
- CRJ 3001 Procedural Law OR CRJ 3002 Criminal Law

Non-degree student
To be eligible to take courses as a non-degree student, you must:
- have graduated high school or passed the GED/TASC; or
- have a cumulative average of a 2.0 from the last college attended.
If you have been dismissed from SUNY Oneonta, you are not eligible to take courses as a non-degree student.
Application Steps
To apply for this microcredential, please complete the online Microcredential Application and submit the following documentation, as decisions will not be made until all materials have been received:
- official HSED or GED score report/completion certificate, or
- official high school transcript including graduation date or showing award of diploma, or
- official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended.
Application Deadlines
- fall term - second Wednesday of August
- spring term - second Wednesday of December
Minimum GPA
You must maintain a 2.0 grade point average to be eligible to continue enrollment.
